The 3rd Rock the Block for Pediatric Epilepsy Research Benefit will be held on Saturday, September 29th at a private club in Chicago.
Rock the Block for Pediatric Epilepsy research was started in 2008 by 2 mothers of children with epilepsy who both live on the same block in Wilmette, Illinois (a northern suburb of Chicago). Their idea to have a "block party" to raise money to fund pediatric epilepsy research blossomed into an event in downtown Chicago that was attended by over 400 people and raised over $150,000. In addition to raising much-needed research dollars, this event began to connect families affected by this devastating disease. In 2010, with the continued dedication and support of many friends and family, the second Rock the Block was held and exceeded expectations again by raising over $200,000! Over the past four years, Rock the Block has managed to reach out to epilepsy families beyond that original block in Wilmette, Illinois, convincing us even more of the need for a cure. With over $300,000 raised in the past 4 years for pediatric research, Rock the Block has managed to fund several epilepsy research grants, connect families affected by epilepsy and raise awareness of this devastating disease. On September 29, 2012 we hope to be able to fund even more research to provide those children and families who suffer from epilepsy with hope for the future.
Proceeds from Rock the Block for Pediatric Epilepsy Research benefit CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for epilepsy by raising funds for research and increasing awareness of the prevalence and devastation of epilepsy.
